On 7th of December 2025, Nation Media Group reported that Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi had confirmed that Kenya was seeking to pursue a new bilateral trade and investment deal with the US to replace the Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership (STIP), whose discussions failed to materialize over a combined 10-year period of negotiations. This was after President Donald Trump promised a one-year extension of AGOA.
